Smile The Danish dude!

Hey guys,

I'm Pete's buddy. Our trip to the Cape in September will be a first for me since I've never fished for stripers before - can't wait!

Any tips to prepare for my trip are much appreciated!

If you were to only use three flies in September, what would they be? From what I've read, I'm assuming Juro's Deep Eel would be one of them

I'm planning on getting a RIO Intermediate Outbound for my 9wt. However, I do 98% of my fishing here in Denmark with intermediate shooting heads (chasing sea-run brown trout in the salt), so I'm inclined to go that route. Do any of you use shooting heads regularly for striper fishing?

Should I bring a fast sinking line as well?

As Pete mentioned I'm into photography, so I'm hoping to shoot a lot of pics when I'm over

Thanks,
Jan

The deep eel covers sand eel and silversides for stripers.

However most hits from bonito and false albacore don't connect with the hook so far up front so a surf-candy style fly or small mushmouth is a must for hardtails.

I'd also have juvi bunker around 3" - my favorite is a custom variation of Page's Bigeye Baitfish. Surprisingly large fish will target a single 3-4" bunker.

I always carry some poppers and sliders since sometimes nothing can be more fun than fish blasting on the surface.

Unfortunately not, Pete, but Silas & Matt might be... I'm not sure on their exact dates.

Well we arrive in Chatham early saturday evening (Sept 19).
I trust that there will be a few people around.
It seems like there is very little activity on the board at the moment. I hope it's because everyone is busy catching fish and not the opposite.

We will probably go to the Squire sometime on Saturday evening.
See you there

Pete! I think you'll liven things up around town - hehe

Fishing's in a bit of a slump right now but we all feel it's about to blow up. There's a lot of bait, big and small, and a good number of blues around but the bigger bass are not in the usual places at the moment. Juvenile menhaden (bunker) are moving in which always gets things going. You might consider chasing some tuna for some excitement while you're here.

Oh and since Labor Day things are much quieter in the watering hole especially with the weather bring so crappy this year overall. Saturday should be fun for you guys. I have commitments in Boston until Sunday AM but Jim Simms and Silas are in town and I am sure John Morin will be back at the CAC.

Second weekend is the boneclave on Washburn Island, you should attend that since you're here.

Looking forward to catching up ...
