For those using 2handers and skagit lines, what lengths of T14 are you building? My understanding is that you don't want to go longer than 3.5 times the length of the rod including the head.

I've got a skagit with a 27.5 head and a 12' 8wt T&T. So that does mean my max length would be approx 14'?

What is the shortest length that makes sense?

I have the Rio Skagit line for my Atlantis, from which I chopped off the first fifteen feet and replaced with fifteen feet of T-14.

Casts like a freakin' rocket.

I use 30ft on my single-handed 9ft 8# rod, which is asking a tad much of it I know, but it copes. A 9 or 10# would probably handle it better though. I find a Shorter head, of less than 30ft, 'dumps' more easily, but again this is on a single-handed rod.

I believe the general skagit formula is total head length should be between 3 and 3.5 times rod length which gives you a range of 36 to 42.5 ft. This is for spey casting loads - not overhead casting.

So your T14 tip can be between 8.5 and 14.5 ft - if my arithmetic is correct?

It's worth experimenting on water to get a balance between a comfortable cast and an effective presentation.

Full skagit head.

I use of 5' ,10' and 15' lengths of T-14 off of the 27' head on the Atlantis 1111, casts like a rocket.
