Boca Grande Fl. fishing species

I am going to Boca Grande in early May for tarpon. We are staying on an island at Boca Grande Pass. What are other species to fish for at that time of year? Should I bring a lighter rod 8 wt? What type of flies besides tarpon flies? And any other helpful pointers! Thanks

Always reds and snook around the backcountry lagoons and creeks or near structure shorelines around the islands in the area. Trout, Ladyfish, Sharks and some other miscellaneous stuff swimming around that area as well. 8WT would be a good choice.

If you get blown out of Boca Grande Pass or just don't feel like dealing w/ the Tarpon Madness. Sanibel/Captiva/Matlacha areas to the south and Charlotte Harbor to the East are also areas worth considering and offer endless backcountry opportunities.
