Forgot to mention...I'm in. Hopefully there will be some fly friendly tuna next year to try them on.

Any thoughts on allowing the partcipants to tie a couple different flies within the six? Might help us get a little more variety within the small group. Jim, this would require more photography on your part so feel free to say no. I would have no problem snapping some pics of a few and putting them up to help out though.

Tuna fly swap

Thanks.
FWIW, the "go to" hook this past season of my favorite Cape Cod guide was the 4/0 Tiemco 600 SP, and the flies - sandeel to full bodied baitfish patterns - averaged about 6 inches in length.

Sean, good idea! That would certainly provide a greater cross-section of flies. No problem with additional photos on my part.

I'll keep this open for sign-up until Monday, Dec. 14th. Anyone have a problem with submitting flies by the end of January? I'll pm my mailing address next week to participants.

Sol, that particular Tiemco hook is it still available?

Jim,

The 600SPs up to 8/0 are readily available. Not cheap at about a $1-$1.50 per but definitely a top notch hook. For smaller flies the new Gami SC17 is also a good choice. They are much smaller for a given size than the 600SP so I have been using the 3/0 for those on small mushies, deceivers etc...

Tuna swap is official. We have 8 participants - Smcdermott, Sol, vtloon, Striblue, CSJ60, Jim Miller, Quentin, and myself. They will be due by the end of January, and I'll be posting pictures and recipes. Should be a fun winter tying session, and I'm anticipating some fine tying and creativity among the participants. Stay tuned.

Sounds good!
Looking forward to it!
Jim, how about we each submit 7 flys.... that way we each get one new pattern.

Tuna Fly Swap

Folks,

FWIW, I will be tying a general baitfish pattern similar to what the 1st Light guys list as the "Tuna Bunny" (among other things). Tying on a 3/0 Tiemco 600SP, with a white rabbit strip tail and kinky fiber as the wing material.

Jim, I have no problem with supplying seven flies; however, at this juncture, I'd have to get concensus on this from the other participants. What say?
