Crab Apples

Since the fishing is slow for me in chatham I tied up some crab flies for North monomy to use later. All are somewhat different but all resemble our mud crab. The legs are from a variety of Palmer hackles usually used by freshwater tiers to tie 20's and smaller dry flies... the carapaces are from a Partridge and pheasant. Craws are neck feathers. All are weighted with dress pins for eyes.

Beautiful! Are the dress pins stainless? Great idea for the eyes. How about a pic of your flounder? Also, have you designed a shrimp pattern? I guess the dog days of summer are a fine time to do some flytying.

Jim, here is one that was posted a couple years ago... I am thinking now of a shrimp fly....looking at various pics of them in the water . I jumped the age gap by putting the eyes where they are for micro flounder.

John, I remember that flounder fly, and it was very creative. You've got a knack, and am looking forward to a shrimp fly from your mindset. I'm pretty good at imitating, but not creative, unless it includes fish stories.

I had the pleasure of watching the master at his vice while on vacation.

Lyndon Johnson, remarking on JFK's tailoring, once said: "makes my suits look like Iron-Boy Overalls".

Looking at those flies, I know what he meant.
