I haven't had the time I normally do to post results. I was on Cape for 8 days starting with Memorial Day Saturday. My usual "crew" for CA and NC was there for the week, plus a few of the guys have been at the house since 5/1.
We fished our usual spots and moved around alot and fished hard. (Brewster Flats, Barstable, Mill Pt, Morris, Pleasant, Bass and the tributaries). We bumped into a few of the other FFF guys and had a great time with the meals and talked alot about fishing. I felt the general consensus was that it was slow. Bascially, it seemed like we were running about 2 full weeks (maybe 3) behind normal with regards to numbers and size. We had 2 pretty good outings (in terms of catching fish) out of 16. The guys in the boats (some of my crew has access) did better and had 3 or 4 phenominal days, but they were generally 200-300 yrds off shore or in waters that were not accessable by flyrods (or spinners with poppers).
Alot of the guys that stay at the house have been chasing the stripers for many years and felt that the cooler water was the main cause, as we were all seeing good bait balls-even on our slow days.
The SW winds towards the end of last week did bring in alot of warmer water and reports from Walt and Fred (still at house) is that fishing is improving.
On a different note-this year marked a first for me. My first fish of the season was a 31" inch striper...., See photo, I should have taken that as an omen.....,
I look forward to seeing you guys next week. I'll be back 6/10 to 6/23.
