I would use a wet fly swing over likley holding spots with current. Loop a small piece of sinking line to the tip of your floater if the current is heavy (LC13 or T13). Or you can spend lots of $$$ on sinktip lines and spare spools.

In areas where the main current runs up against a seem (for example deep water alongside a steep bank on the inside of a bend), let the swing run into the seam and work the fly slowly back with a varying strip retrieve.

In very slow moving deep pools, you can try slowly bouncing a small clouser or weighted streamer across the bottom.
The real key is knowing how to identify fish holding spots and then figuring out the best strategy to make the perfect presentation. This will stack the odds in your favor.

There is a great book called modern streamer techniques that incorporate some tactics that I have had very good luck with. Mainly, it is to use fast full sinking lines and strip quickly down and across. According to the author, bait fish never flee up towards the surface unless forced there thus the use of the full sinking line, and the quick strip elicits the trouts instinct to chase whether it is hungry or not.
