Question FLY REELS

Ok am a bit of a newbie, infact just started fly fishing recently so im not really that clued up on all the ins and outs. ok, i got an airflo T7 fly reel off of ebay for 50 which i thought was a bargain seen as they seel for around double that in shops, and because im new to fly fishing iam not sure if the reel is working perfect. i think this is mainly because i have heard quite a lot of bad reviews about the reel which has got me a bit worried. so what does everyone think of the reel, and also other airflo equipment like rods etc?????? and also i noticed with the reel that i used the first couple of times i was down that it made a noise if i had a fish on or if i was reeling in line. with the T7 there is not any noise which again has got me worried!!?????? all comments would be halpfull! thanks

Bellers,
Welcome to the Forum, I hope someone will come along to help.
I did not know Airflo even sold equipment. Apparently it is not sold here in the USA where I live. I have several Airflo lines and like them very much, however lines are not reels or rods now are they?

Welcome to the forum bellers!

Unfortunately I have to tell you that I've heard mostly bad things about that reel, mainly the reliability. It seems to break a lot.

What kind of rod are you using, and what are you fishing for?

thanks, this is the rod i got recently, again i got it from an internet site, but it was from tacklebargains.com from the ex display rods, so they sell them cheaper: Airflo SLS Fly Rod. its 9ft 6. starting off by fishing a stocked loch, fishing for rainbows and ther is the odd brownie in there so iv been told. is it normal what i was saying about the noise, or the lack of it coming from the reel? sorry for the rubbish explanations!

I'm guessing that the reel you used the first time was a click and pawl, which basically means there's a gear inside of it with a metal piece that clicks (click) against the gear (pawl). I've circled the metal piece in red on the photo. The gear is on the back of the spool, so you can't see it here.

Your reel is a disk drag model so if you pull the spool off, you won't see any of the pieces you do in this picture, and therefore there's nothing to make the noise you heard on the other reel. Some reels have both the click and pawl and a disk drag, such as an Orvis Battenkill LA.
