Danielsson maintenance

After reading posts on this forum, I got two LWs and one HD for mainly saltwater use. To prevent rusting COMPLETELY, what do I need to do? Is just rinsing under running freshwater good enough? Do I need to soak them in freshwater for sometime? Do I need to strip out the backing and let it dry everytime? I'd appreciate any feedback.

You had read the only reported case of salt water getting into the bering of the Danielsson reel. I don't fish to often in salt water, but Juro fishes a lot and if I remember correctly he stated that he
rinse them occasionally with fresh water to look nice, and soaking in not necessary.

It is still no clear if the reported case was due to v-seal failure ( material) or the cover cap which holds the spool was not tighten.

If you give a reel 15 seconds shower with fresh water every several salt water trips you will be fine.
You can always disassemble drag, bearing if you are curious to see inside. It takes 5 minutes to disassemble and assemble it back. DO NOT put any water or grease into bearig or drag case. It SHOUD BE DRY!!!

When the drag knob is reposition, after L/R hand retrieve change or after the drag/bearing was disassembled , it should be squeezed against the frame before the locking screw is tighten to insure that the o-ring inside the knob drag press against the housing.

Salmo,
Thanks for your response. I've never read any report on internal corrosion problem on the Danielsson! I'm not worried about their seal. I just wanted to prevent any rusting on the outer frame or parts exposed to saltwater, etc, so that mine will continue to look as great as they do now. If Juro has never had any rusting or corrosion on his by simply rinsing them well after each use, that will do the trick for me too.

All outer parts are made of the stainless steel ( like drag knob) or anodized aluminum.
