Los Roques, Venezuela

Hi all,

Is there a budget way of doing Los Roques? I am making a trip to Guyana but may have to pass through Caracas to get there. I was thinking of jumping on a flight over to do some bonefishing on my way back. Any idea how much flights are to the island and if there are any budget accommodations or is it all pretty much luxury set up?

Thanks,

Mike

The flights are only a couple hundred round trip but I understand you'd be limited to fishing the beaches and shorelines verses the famous pancake flats. However that's not a bad thing - the beaches have large bones that are catchable on your own. Since this is more of a fling than a dedicated trip why not if you have the time and means.

But what are accommodations like? Are there some cheap huts to sleep in or is everything more posh? Is camping an option?

I haven't been but you sure have my curiosity up on this archipelago now.

Here's a link that I believe represents loding on Los Roques, although there may be other cheap options.

The rooms rooms run $150 US and up...

Hi,

If your curiosity has been peaked, then check out this place I found.

http://www.explorepartners.com/posad...agua-clara.htm

The main page for this site says it is the perfect destination for bonefishermen as well as and nudists (not that that really interests me).

Thanks for the info,

Mike

Well then Mike,

I think your priorities may be a little skewed

Just kidding, now that lobster is something I would really like to gawk at on my plate.

Keep us posted.
After talking to Pete about Los Roques it's certainly on my short list of places to experience. And I'm usually on a budget :-P

Well gents,

Sort of bad news I guess. I am no longer traveling via Caracas, so Los Roques is out for this trip. It is definitely on my dream list for places to go though (along with Christmas Island and Turneffe).

My flight now goes through Trinidad, so I am now stuck with attempting to find some bonefish in Tobago, which I had no luck with the last time I tried there. Anyone have any tips for there?

C-YA

Mike

Hi
Looks like I am too late for this topic.
I have just got back from a week in Gaspe.
I have been to Los Roques 6 or 7 times and I know it pretty well.
If you need some info let me know.

Pete

Google Earth Report:

Los Roques looks great via aerial recon. Trinidad Tobago... a flatless void

Hi a first post for me on a new forum.

I've always wanted to visit Los Roques but the price $3595 (from Caracas) for a full week, organized from the UK, has put me off, slightly .

It's nice to know of alternatives. What's the political situation in Venezuela - is it still safe destination?

I'm thinking of mid March'08; on my way back from a Buenos Aires visit

Hi Salmonella
With the US dollar at it's weekest rate ever, you will find that it is a very good value trip for someone from the UK.

Hi Frank
There are a number of threads on this site on the subject of fishing in Los Roques.

My last report was on a thread titled "Bonefish on a dry fly".

Pete

If you guys want a complete how to get there, where to stay, guides, tackle, fish etc then I will need to write a book.
