Aug 12th Boat trip

Just bought into a boat and was going to bring it down to the cape on the 12th. I need two people to go with me. I haven't been fishing on the cape from a boat so I need at least one person that knows some good places to fish and to put the boat off.

RE:Aug 12th Boat trip

Nate,

A lot of people (including me) are going to be on the Monomoy trip. Bob Pink is a good guy to ask about launching spots. Sakquatucett (sp?) in Harwich provides access to Monomoy. Sesuit is good for Brewster flats & Billingsgate. There are some launches in Bourne & Falmouth that provide access to B-Bay, Elizabeths & the South Side. Decide what you want to do & we'll try to give you more specific info. Best advice is to lauch VERY EARLY to avoid the YAHOO ZOO.

Map Tech makes waterproof charts that also show boat ramps & have phone #'s in the legend. You can get these at West Marine for $19. Good Luck & welcome to the boat owner money pit!

RE:Aug 12th Boat trip

If you're going to Monomoy, the public ramp in Oyster River (Stage Harbor) is a much easier trip -- especially if you're not familiar with the area. Saquatucket is a nicer ramp, but you've got 3.5 miles of open water to reach Monomoy, and once you're there you can no longer see the entrance to the harbor.

SRobbins
I am either going to billingsgate or off the south beaches.

RE:Aug 12th Boat trip

How beeeg is de bote, meester?

Seriously, what kinda hull ya' talkin?

Options:

Sesuit (either side public) to fish from Sandy Neck to Brewster Flats; outgoing thru late morning and the hot incoming rush. Also Billingsgate Shoals, which has been hot. I prefer a light wind to drift over bait on the shoals and over flats.

Bass River Veterans Landing, head out to the rockpile and see if the bonito are in. Blues are, and more bass have been hanging on the sound due to cooler temps and tons of bait. After bassin' run around to Handkerchief Shoal to fill the cooler with fluke, the best eating in the sea.

What Steve Robbins suggests is probably the best option, depending on the boat you're driving. You could have inside out access to the common flats and crib, even the south island flats and tip rip if you're feeling adventurous. There will be a crew there fishing the rip from shore that day.

Upper Cape, Green Pond ramp or other access out there... run out to various salt ponds, Wacky, Succonessett depending on hull again.
