Need advice on Knots

Hello everyone!

I just purchased my first fly rod here is SW Florida. I am trying to attach my fly line to my leader. Im having trouble tying a knot with the larger fly line and the leader...It comes out looking like a jumbled mess.

Can anyone reccomend a good name of a knot I can use??

Thanks!

Do a web search for either nail knot or albright knot.....either will work, but the nail knot is much better for the application that you're describing.

The best investment you could make right now is to get a good book on knots and fly fishing line systems.
A couple good ones are

Practical Fishing Knots Mark Sosin & Lefty Kreh
Fly Casting Systems Bill Nash

Great suggestion. I have Practical Fishing Knots and still use it after 6 years of experience. I might also suggest LL Beans Saltwater Fly-Fishing Handbook by Lefty Kreh. A nice short read that will help you get started with most of the basics and less than $20.
