MIllers River surprises me again

I fish the Millers River in Erving yesterday and got a big surprise. I caught my 2nd 20 inch Smallmouth bass of the year. I also caught another that pushed 17 inches and the normal bunch of 10 to 12 inchers. If it keeps up like this it's going to be a banner year. Sorry no pictures. My son has my camera in Europe.

crayfish fly

A simple crayfish fly made with rubber legs off the end of the hook and deerhair palmered around the shank. I also weight the fly with coneheads or barbells. I'll put up a picture when I get my camera back.

Yeah, I live in Erving. The Millers River has been great to me for my whole life. I wouldn't recommend eating the fish unless you can tell they are freshly stocked. The paper plant used to cause a lot of pollution, but it seems to be getting better. I was curious about using a nymph or a p and p wet fly this time of year.

nymping the Millers

I am not much of a nymph fisherman but friends of mine do very well with them. I'm not sure that you can fish anything in the Millers and not catch fish.

Hmmm, went out this afternoon, tried a few of the flies I just learned how to tie. Still no luck with a wolly bugger,a p and p, or a rabbit hair nymph. I think it was too close to mid day, so I'll give it another shot tomarrow evening.
