Le Clave de la Gaspesie

Looks like we've got some interest in a Gaspe Clave (?)
I/We've been kicking this idea around for about three yr's now and I guess we should bring it to fruition.
If y'all want to keep it 'loose", and just be a genteel non commercial get together, both the Petite and Gaspe are ideal .IMHO Gaspe outweighs the Petite in that in early June we've already got some excellent casters that could be "volunteered" into doing demos. Seriously, with the folk that are already going to be there and if Juro makes it,with one or two more and we'll almost have one on one casting lessons. I know some of the Left Coast guys would use this as an excuse to FINALLY get to Gaspe ;-)
If we do this on the days immediately preceeding the season opening we could slide right into some seriously great fishing !! Baillergeon would be ideal for demos. IF the bridge survives =:-O
I'll leave it to dave to post the many advantages of doing this at Camp Melancon on the Petite Cascapedia.Wherever we do this, I'll volunteer to help as it's going to be needed, and as amtter of fact there's a couple of "volunteers" lurking in the bottom of the pool.
Cheers

Hello all,

Here is a thought... why not hold two gatherings. I am not sure if we could call them claves - maybe just gatherings until we can get the bugs worked out.

Ann and the Gaspe area is best in June, however, the Grand Cascapedia could be interesting in future years as well. July, August or September would probably be best here in this area with the Petite, Bonnie and Grande that still fish well in the hotter months and really turn on in September.

Maybe if we tried to offer two dates more people could come as it would allow more choice of dates.

Finding places to stay for people is not a problem in this area and I doubt it is a problem in Gaspe.

Although I am willing to help organize, I am sure there are many other capable people who could set this up as well. If anyone wants to take the lead on this, I am willing to offer logistical and practical information in order to make it a success.

Jocelin, you are correct, too much s@@t and not enough positive writing going on. So I propose that this thread be kept about a Spey gathering of some sort where we only offer advice, ideas and comments.

Would be pretty cool to get a few of the boys from across the pond to attend this as well.

What sort of format do you think would work? What do we all want to get out of this event? How much fishing and how much casting demo's and instruction. Inquiring minds want to know!!!

Dave

Open the season in June in Gaspe and end it on the Petite in Sept. :-)
Call it "the Fine Tuning" and "the Wrap Up"

Just a thought, but might it not be best a little later in the season than June. Most boys are pretty serious then and it will eat into serious fishing time. By the end of July and into August it really does'nt hurt to give up a few days for some instruction, fun, and socialising.
Like I said, just a thought.

Good Evening.

I have been following both threads, unfortunately, I am not available to help out for June 2007. I am totally booked, busy and will be on my usual runs this coming June. My cottages are also all booked at that time. I also know some have waters already secured for 2007, this might be bad timing for them too.

I would, however, be interested to work on a June Clave in Gaspé for 2008. I feel it would be important to set this up by mid-Summer 2007. ( Dates etc..)
Also, offering lodging, pre-season draws etc.. and giving anglers the chance to fish all three rivers. ( Greatttt Spey waters and trophy fish!!)
This will also give me time to work the logistics!!

I like to be organized, no last minute headaches and only smiles on the rivers!!
(I do need nice pics for my river reports!! )

(Brian, you're still doing the cooking!!! )

Wishing you all a nice Christmas and the Best for 2007!!

Ann

How about later in the season? I know I'll be back up in September to fish in New Brunswick and it would be easy to pop over to the Gaspé for a few days. Say Sept 16-18?

I'm with you Ramsey, I think later in the season might work a little better or even better yet do what Ann proposed and start now on one for June of 2008. It sounds crazy but a lot of planning is need to organize an event like this especially in Gaspe and seeing as how most everyone has already made their plans for the upcoming salmon season maybe 2008 would allow a much better planed event. Not to mention that most of the guys I know that will be in Gaspe in early June including myself will be very focused on a hopeful encounter with Salar and will find it hard to drag themselves away from the river for even one day to attend a clave.

Ann, Juro mentioned that he would be more than happy to help out with the cooking this year so maybe I'll have a little help. For anyone that is interested in a little get together the first week of June in Gaspe (after a good day of fishing) and share some good spey stories about salmon fishing over a few beers and some dogs on the grill let myself or Charlie know and we'll set something up.

PS- Austin, I already have you down for at least two dogs.
