Cast -n- Blast

After several days of rain and more on the way, we figured that today, Wednesday would give us our best chance for a few late season fish. We dropped her at Pt. Jude and headed west, working our way toward Charleston Breachway. First we hit the Harbor of Refuge. The harbor was calm as a mill pond except that the surf was running hard at the East gap. Looked really fishy with plenty of water movement. Not a bump or hit.

Everywhere we went conditions were exactly the same. Water temperatures an amazing 57 degrees for this late in the season. Surf breaking along the shore maybe five footers. No mung or weed suspended in the column to foul a fly. The wind from the South at 5 mph with a smaller tide draw.

(I can live with that since the surf was so dynamic.)

Every bit of water we fished looked like sea foam green. Kinda ere to look at all morning. I suspect there might be fine particles of sand present. No baitfish is sight the whole trip and that goes for birds activity too.

We caught the last few hours of the outgoing and stayed for the first few of new water. Not a bump, follow, or hit all morning. Nothing! Kinda depressing since the conditions looked good. Maybe it was the water quality or the amount of wind we've been having. But we got Skunked!!!

Is that spot burning if you name specific places that hold no fish?

On a high note, there was plenty of sea scoters and eiders rafting all over the place. Left the shotguns at home.

Look at it this way Ray, you could be in your old classroom teaching instead of on the water getting skunked. FishHawk
