Bandannas

Why is it you see so many pictures of folks fishing out west with a bandanna tied around their necks? Does it do something useful, or is it a cowboy identification thing?

Because it looks so gay!

I wear one over my nose sometimes, and pull it off my face for photos. A cotton bandanna is pretty useful for cleaning my specs when all my clothes are poly. Sure, it looks kind of queer...er... "cowboy", but not as goofy as a turned up collar

Handy rag

It's a handy rag,, wipe the sweat off your face. Yuk off your hands etc. dont want that crap on the collar of my good cowboy shirt. Sure can t be a grabbing the brim on my new Resistol with dirty hands.

Kinda like why don't you wear the hood up on your rain coat in Montana and Wyoming ? Had a feller tell me the answer a while back. I'll make sure I keep my hood down,

Skilly

Didn't wearing bandanas originally start as a method to keep dust from getting in your nose and mouth on cattle drives, etc?

The wearing of one now is probably more a symbolic thing in keeping with the "old west".

First, for posing purposes - the truth be known. Then, to clean my sunglasses, camera lens, for sun protection, to wet in the water, etc.
