Got back from the Miramichi last evening after fishing the lower part of the river (Blackville to tide water) from the 15th of September to the 22nd. The river was on the low side which is usually good for the pools we fish. The problem was the weather. It was was just too hot. For the first 5 days, the water temperature ranged fron 62 to 68. Our upper pool was loaded with salmon and grilse, but they weren't taking. We saw salmon moving through through the lower pools without stopping. It starting cooling off on Wednesday and the water got down to 60 Thursday morning. Now we started to catch fresh, old and Cains River salmon. There was a heavy frost Friday morning, dropping the water temperature to 56. The fishing continued to improve. I ended up landing 5 salmon and 2 grilse. With the rain and cool weather they are getting right now, the fishing should be fantistic for the next couple of weeks.
