You can get the HD 9-13 for $436 US from Australia + around $22 S/H. There may
be less expensive places to buy Danielsson reels, but this is the best deal I've found. I'am thinking of getting an LD 8-12 w/ an extra spool for ~$ 470 incl. shipping.

RogCon,

You could just buy the danielsson from Ron Larson direct in the US.

http://danielsson-flyreels.se/us/prislista.php

Cheaper than australia and you are buying direct from where you would get teh reel serviced if anything happened.

For that kind of money I would have gotten the Tibor Riptide

But you would not have gotten better reel. Unlike the HD, Tibor requires some maintenance.

Well rinsing off the reel after fishing is the only maintence required , that's not too much to ask.
More world class fishing records have been broken using a Tibor reel. Many top fishing guides use Tibor reels because they are reliable and have termendous drag. These are the reasons why I'm getting a Tibor reel as my treat to myself.
I have some retirement money and want a reel that will last. FishHawk

Fishhawk,

I think regular drag maintenance is a reality with any cork drag, however that's not too much to ask either. Speaking with owners who are hardcore anglers it's viewed as part of the joy of ownership by some and a regular and customary duty by others.

You deserve it and it will make a beautiful retirement reel!

Per the Daneilssons - In the back of my mind I am thinking some big company is going to buy Danielsson and the price will go back up to LOOP retail again where it was for many years. So I am picking up as many as I can to outfit myself from trout to striper to bones to tarpon to Spey while I can. It's a window of opportunity to own one of the best flyreels made at a more than fair price.

Only because more world class fishing records have been broken using a Tibor reel don’t mean it is better reel….
Both reels have very powerful drag. There have been instances that Tibor would develop hydroplaning effect and for that reason they recommend to put oil or grease contain Teflon time to time.
Try to disassemble the HD and look inside then you will better appreciate the great design of Danielssons reels.
Well, one thing is certain, the HD will last at least as long as Tibor, doesn’t require any service ( unless abused) and cost $ 200-300 less, thanks for direct sale from the factory.

Try to find anyone who fish for Tarpon or large Atlantic Salmon and would complain about HD or LW manufactured by Danielsson ( including former Loop/Danielsson reels), good luck…..
