I have not fished much this year until recently - it's been good on schoolies up to just under 28 but plenty of them - I just got off the water and it's herring soup out there, has been for a week now. The fly is the way to go since the bass are on 3/4" herring - just sipping the surface, you can pick your fish, see them swimming by on the sand when it's glass smooth. Just glide into the school and dead drift with the occasional short strip and bang.
Blues are offshore a bit but no monsters there. I've been using a 12wt type 5 sinker with limited success, light tackle give me the distance I need if they are skittish. Lots of fun.
Bigger bass have been on adult pogies but not big schools of either pogs or LG bass. Tried live lining one this morning and it was cool to see the bass go after a 16" bait, nice surface show but no hook up on that one.
