bomber Hackles??

What hackles do you use for tying bombers? trying to get ready to go up to Kedgwick and have been tying them with some of the feathers that i can find in packs of schlappen but they arent very good feathers for the job...
I have been told dyed over white genetic capes are the way to go???

The dyed over white genetic capes are nice. I also get packages of the strung neck hackles and get some good feathers out of them. The problem with the capes and the strung neck hackles is you don’t get good length out of them. I usually have to use at least two on a fly body, sometimes three on larger flies. The fly in the picture has three separate hackles wound through the body.

Charlie.

Look through the "saltwater/bass capes and necks in your local fly shop. You can usually find both the texture and length you want, plus a few winging feathers on there if you're lucky! I've acutally gotten some natural and died grizzlies that look great on bombers.

Like Charlie, I use hackle capes or good quality genetic saltwater saddles. My favorite hackle capes for Bombers are the Whiting American Hackle Capes, and my favorite saddles for them are Whiting American Hackle Saddles, Keough grade 2 saddles, or Spencer's grade 2 saddles. Also, like Charlie, I almost always need to use 2 neck or saddle hackles to properly hackle a Bomber.

Hackels

Whiting Silver Grade hackles are really nice for the money. Just a step up from the bronze grade but won't break the bank. I tend to go for the stiffest hackle I can find. the more water that can be pushed the better.
