Train derailment.....

One of the coal trains derailed on the Lytton bridge crossing the Thompson and around a dozen cars fell off into the river. Sounds like a real mess the cars were carrying aprox. 1,200 (Tonnes) of coal. It can't be good but how bad it is will remain to be sorted out.

that is crazy, did it stain up the water something awful? Curious to what the long term affects coal would have?

Some of the rivers I fish have coal exposed to the water so the two get together in nature - hopefully this bodes well for not contaminating the water (fingers crossed). I guess the type of coal would make a difference as well.

However I'm sure it's not doing the river any good as Moonlight said and hope this causes much tighter regs and practices on transporting materials - who knows when it will be a chemical load that derails God forbid!
