I just moved to Rolla, Missouri, from Blairsville, GA. I was wondering are the flies from GA different than the ones i should use in Missouri? If so, can you guys name some flies i should get to use.
TY
PS. if anyone happens to have flies for my area, or good dealers, plz tell.
Chuck Tryon's book about Trout Fishing in Missouri is considered to be the local bible. It costs less than $20 and is well worth the price for its discussion on trout fishing in Missouri in general including fly patterns to use.
I can't remember all the rec's but I do remember that the Tellico Nymph, Wooly Bugger, and Elk Hair Caddis were suggested.
I haven't fished for a number of years but used to do well with small leadhead marabou jigs particularly black/yellow and black/olive color combos. Not quite what a purist would use but very effective in 1/64th ounce on down.
I live in Columbia, and travel to Montauk State Park the most. My favorite flies have to be: Olive Mohair Leech, Crackleback, BH Prince, gray scud, tan scud.
