puerto plata

Has anybody been to the D.R.? I would like to bring my 8 or 10 wt. and find some
flats or mangroves for permit bonefish and tarpon. I'm staying in the Puerto Plata
area. I know there are some inshore and offshore guided trips. But in doing that I wouldn't need my own equipment. I'd like to explore a little on my own. Is it safe to do so?
