crazy gotcha

first off i must admit i have never done any bonefishing. i tie flies and they get to go bonefishing. this is a bit of a hybrid having the body of a charlie with the wing of a gotcha. the diamond braid usualy used for the body on the gotcha is easily chewed up and broken when the rest of the fly is indestructible. especialy when using x-point hooks that are pretty pricey and the fact that you don't lose many flies adds to this theory.
i will be doing step by steps on a variety of subjects in the future and this easy fly helped me to nail down the studio lighting and post processing of the pics. more to come.

crazy gotcha

hook- daiichi x-452
thread- 6/0 uni pink
eyes- bead chain
tail/body flash- pearl flashabou
body- shrimp v-rib
wing- polar fiber/craft fur pink with a few strands of k-flash

step #1
start thread behind eye and make a small bump of thread to position eyes against for stability.

step 3

advance thread to behind eyes and tie in and wrap back the v-rib flat side down. advance the tread a few turns.

step 4

clip off the tail to body length and retie the flashabou in at the thread point. advance thread to in front of the eyes. wind the flashabou forward covering the thread/v-rib evenly and figure 8 the eyes and tie off on top of hook.

step 5

wind the v-rib forward flat side down and figure 8 around the eyes tying it off on top of the hook. trim the v-rib at an angle to make the head as smooth as possible. tie off the v-rib on top to offset the wing being tie in on the bottom.

step 6

cut about a half inch square piece of craft fur off the "hide", pull out most of the really short "underfur", hand stack a few times to shorten and full up the wing a little and tie in. add a few strands of pearl k-flash and finish off the head.

Thanks for the post and step by step!
I'll be sure to tie your "Charlie" variation for my late June trip to Eleuthera.

Nice photos Nick. What camera do you use? I know that is only part of the equation but am curious. Am looking at digital SLRs which I am guessing you are using.

I noticed in your recipe that you used flashabou for the body rather than larvae lace. Do you use several strands and twist together? I need to get a tying for my trip to Eleuthera in 21 DAYS.

Great fly, so true about this fly being MUCH more durable also I think the rib makes the fly look more reel. I will tye some of those up.

Ever wonder about dubbing underneath and picking some of the dubbing out for more action. I may try a variation of your creation for fun.

Nick, they are very nice--I will give them a workout on Acklins next week.
Are you going to put that great shrimp pattern up--I think it will be deadly, especially on tailers.
