How time flies

I say that in jest, but winter solstice is less than a week away (21st) then it's uphill from there at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere. As far as all the kiwis and aussies, I guess you might be awaiting crisp autumn days again.

The only good thing about short days is that I don't have to stand in an ice cold river for so long...... Or is that a bad thing, I never can remember.

Charlie.

Uphill?

Juro I have always wondered at times about your ability to display the truth in your daily dealings , the fact that you just stated that re. the Solistice of Winter and it is "Up Hill" from here I finally realize that we are from not just different Planets but "Altrenative Universes"
On second thought I am not confused you are!

If I understand your point correctly, I have to admit I was unsure whether to say "downhill" or "uphill" at that point. However I rarely spend much time on such a trivial point and just post whatever.

But since you raise the point, when we talk about something going bad, let's say a sport team, we'd say "we put dingbat at QB and things have gone straight downhill from there". When we talk about businesses, they go downhill right into the gutter unless they get a new superstar on the board of directors in which case things could be looking up.

So this is one of those subjective metaphors, however I have rarely if ever heard of someone saying "downhill from here" in a positive context; maybe it has something to do with my day job verses yours.

In any case, let me clarify - the shortest day of the year is about to pass, and it's all sideways from there.

Modest failure at humor (I guess)

The good folks of Alaska refer to it as the Hump day. If you ever spent a Winter in the Great land you would better understand just one of those cheechako vs sourdough things probably like fly pole vs Fly Rod

I've always thought the pagans had it right by having the solstice mark the middle of winter (summer.)

How come that ol' pope decided to make it the first day of winter (summer) anyway? Sheesh! Winter has been here for some time now!

How come we don't celebrate like dem old Pagans? That shortest day of the year really brought out the boys and girls, lots of fur, eating and Hip Hop. We just don't have much fun anymore.

Like the Vietnam vets, I suggest we use the term "short", and count down the number of days until the next Spring Clave
