Catt Clave 2005

many thanks to all who attended this year and made it a great event! the water was low and the wind high, but the group was second to none.

special thanks go out to Charlie for getting and keeping the ball rolling.

special thanks to the presenters Juro, Jad and Rick for their time and patience in sharing their techniques with the rest of us hacks. everyone learned a lot and had a great time doing it. also thanks to Steve G. from Orvis for the fine libations and gars, really made the attendee's happy they'd come and even left with a souviner.
i should also metion a thanks to the scuba divers who waited so patiently to put those fine captive steelhead on the end of my line for me!

Thanks for posting the pictures guys. We had about 30 to 35 people show up over the weekend. Everyone had a great time watching the demos by Juro, Jad and Rick. They were all top notch, thanks for putting on a great show guys.

The food, supplied by the FlyFishingForum and Oak Orchard fly shop; hit the spot on a cold gray day. We all got a look at some good equipment. Nick (Black Francis) had some great rods from T&T, Scott, Winston and lines from Rio. Steve G. brought Orvis equipment along with some great micro brewed beers, cigars, pint glasses and hats to give away. Greg Defoe had a rare treat for us on the east coast with Kerry Burkheimer Rods and Watermaster boats. And Tom K. had rods from CND and Sage.

Special thanks go to Nick and Juro. This event would not have happened without you guys.

Thanks, Charlie.

P.S. MMM Good!

What a great time!

It was an honor to be in the line-up with Rick Kustich and Jad Donaldson last weekend. Thanks to the efforts of Charlie, Nick and all who chipped in the 2nd annual Catt Spey Clave was a hit. The group size 30-35 people works well because the level of interaction is high.

Besides if there are too many people you have to wait longer to rotate through and catch your own steelhead I could not believe that pack of hot fish that came through our clave waters and how many were hooked.

The rest of the river was bony and low; however gorgeous with the fall colors trimming the canyon walls and the bright waters down on the reservation gravel moraine. A very special place indeed.

My thanks to my Spey class students, all showed great progress and it was a pleasure. Please keep the dialog going by email, PM etc.

The forum and Oak Orchard Flyshop chipped in to provide dogs and cold refreshments for lunch both days. We had three hotshot photographers on site - Nick, Charlie and Griz who BTW also ruined our previously content appreciation for average scotch whiskeys by bringing some of his private stock for us to sample. Just ask Tim, who having no glass pulled a miniature stanley cup trophy from his truck from which he drank his drams.

I think what makes this clave special is not crowds but the high levels of interaction and the integration of fishing into the clave for the group.

Great job and judos to Charlie, Nick and all who pulled this thing together!

Catt Clave

Great job by all who were involved.
It was nice to actually get some fishing in, for the full effect, with a monster rod (I can't afford right now - but it's on my list..)
Too bad Nick needed all the fish in the run for his presentation on how to bring fish to the bank.
I took a few good shots of the HOG he landed, and I'll post when I get the film developed.

Charlie & Juro,
How was the Zoar Valley adventure? Any steel?
Tell us the story!
The collective US who were back at work on Monday and NOT on the water. (yes I'm jelous )
Here's Mr. Dickson working the tailout with a Sage 6 weight on Saturday.

Steve,

No fish in the Valley, at least none that would hit our flies. We did get some action down on the RES.

I did get to fish with Juro's alter ego John Plezia!

Charlie.

First Spey Clave that I've been too. Good show. Hope you have it again next year. Charlie, Nick, Juro and Jad thanks for helping to pull this together. I love the philosopy lets meet at the stream and toss the line. Skagit casting is a trip, not much use for it on Elk. Also thanks Tom at Buffalo Outfitters for openning your doors Sunday night and letting me pick up the Hardy and CND Spey Rods. Class act and terrific time.
