Glad to see you will be back. I don't know if I will be down due to traffic ect. However, I'm sure we will meet on the Flats again. FishHawk

John,

No words can soften the blow for you and yours; no sea as deep as your dedication and no storm can render the extent of turmoil you must have felt within - however of all things the beach sand and your footprints belong together. Perhaps the shore is part of you, you are part of it and the time will come when you allow nature's arms to embrace you in dunes, soft grasses and surf again...

When I walk alone on the beach the sound of my drifting thoughts can drown the surf sometimes. They are not loud so much as potent, and I have literally walked 100 yds past pounding 15 pound October bluefish tearing into 14" menhaden while in a deep thinking walk. A flipping pogie up completely on the beach snapped me out of it, making me think... 'why is the bunker on the beach?' and turn my head find I had not noticed a sea of spraying brute blues the size of my leg when normally while on the hunt I notice a sand flea.

Sometimes those resonating thoughts are of my teacher, my sensei father who made me into a fisherman since my earliest memories. Of all the things he taught me, fishing is the one I treasure most and the thing I most wish I could do with him again. His spirit is in the surf, along with other spirits dear to me, like Brian Maraschiello, a fellow co-op student from upstate NY and conspirator of fishing excursions that went well past compulsive and obsessive, living on the edge of bona fide fishing bum status as a duo. I met him while 19 yrs old but his time came in his mid-20's the year I moved to Seattle to work with Boeing. We had plans to fish steelhead together and for years I could think of nothing else but his abrupt passing whenever I stepped into the river.

For me, the river, sea and sky are where my departed loved ones and I still share moments of freedom, as they are truly free in my thoughts there and so we should be freed as well.

John

Good, No !, great that you are drawn back. I wish that I could be there.

The UK boys still talk about the influence you, Juro and others had on us, truly an inspiration.

All the very best, your actions have a far greater effect than you can ever know

John.....even when on the flats with no one else is sight....one is never alone....even tough your mind will at times flash pictures of fond memories that have passed....embrace them and smile...for they are visits to you in another form. All I know is that if I passed and I was "visiting" my wife in her favorite places....nothing would make my spirit happier than seeing that she allowed joy to re-enter her life again.
Best Wishes,
Ron

John- if you are planning a Labor Day outing I would be very eager to join you with the "secret" fly. Like we discussed at the CAC, fishing is like Valium- equally addictive, but wetter and a whole lot healthier to body and soul.

Be there...

if you want company. I'll be on the Cape after Labor Day thru mid-October, and when you want some company, or to fish, I'm there. Pam and I felt your pain a couple of weeks ago when we visited. Time, friends, family and a passion to get you up in the morning are requisite my friend for your health.

Hi John,
I wish my location was closer to yours so I can spend time with on the surf. I had a great time at the lighthouse and will remember them always. Thanks again for your courage and spirit during your time of transition.
fish we must,

John- I'm on call through Sunday afternoon, so won't be able to fish until Monday. I'll try to stop by CAC Saturday night to say hi, but we'll have to get together later in the month-I'm free of weekend calls through the rest of the month, and am planning on going to the Boneclave at the end of the month. Bourbon and cow juice nightcaps await....

John,
I certainly hope you make it out this wekend. I know you are enduring some trying times but whenever I have been graced with tough going I always harken back to the sea. It is my rock of Gibraltar and the only place I am able to put thing's back into perspective quickly. The pain and suffering will fade with time as it always does, you will never forget your wife but in time she will only eschew happy and inviting thoughts from your mind, these most likely will be summoned during forays to the sea and like Juro you will think of times gone by and happily remember thing's you shared. The quicker you mount that horse the better off you will be and thing's will be on their way to normalcy (sp) again. Enjoy time on the water and embrace all of your thoughts and feelings while on the water, life is a gift and a very short lived one at that so get back on that horse and begin the true healing.

John. It's good to see you posting again. Welcome back! I'm sure I can speak for all of us that we are thrilled to have you thinking towards the water again. I hope you had a great time out this weekend. Sorry I couldn't make it out to see you. The Casino does not close on holidays so I was stuck at work. Best wishes to you and the kids.

Phil
