September?

Hi Everyone

I am currently thinking of flying over from Europe on either the second or third week in September.
What is the likelyhood of there being any good sight fishing or should I think of going somewhere else.
All advice is very much apreciated.
Thanks.

Pete

Around the cape in September the fishing will be good, but the sight fishing will be quite different in that the fish are becoming less focused on feeding up on the flats. Giant shoals of bait arrive in the area and the fish are less prone to scavenging in skinny water when they can be gorging on protein rich finfish elsewhere.

However there will be distinct populations of fish stuck in that behavior pattern in Sept, as JeffB can attest and the sight fishing can be very good if you know where to stand at the right time/tide.

You will have all kinds of action but it's not the prime time for sight fishing per se unless you count casting to visibly feeding surface action.

That being said I wonder where the best sight fishing in September would be...

Hi Juro

Thanks for such a quick reply.

Sight fishing is my main interest however the fishing that you describe is also very interesting.
What I don't want is to be in a boat with a swell so that I can't stand up, never mind cast.

Pete

Another trip!!

Pete,

You should try and hook up with Silas and Matt. They are talking about heading over a similar time and they had a ball when they went around this time last year.

Hi John
If the last trip was anything to go by then I slept in some very big expensive hotel but spent all of my non fishing time in the pub (Squire?).

Rhode Island fishes very well in the Fall , perhaps even better than some of the beaches on Cape Cod. However , it's mostly surf fishing . FishHawk

Sight fishing can be great in September. Even if you have to fish the surf, rather than the flats, you can still see and cast to fish cruising along the shore. And if you want to try for false albacore they are another option (obsession? ). Let me know if you'd like specific info about a few places to try.

I'll probably be on the Cape or in RI (or both!) for a few days during that time. Not sure when or where yet.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the info. After checking a few other things out I have decided not to go.
Also I have been invited to Scotland for some atlantic salmon fishing.

See you in June next year, hopefully.

Pete

I will be on vacation from Sept 10-17th...

May go to the Vineyard if I can find somewhere reasonable to stay...had
hoped to find some people to go into a house rental with me but no luck.

If not MVY then will be on the cape...if anyone wants to hook up to try different
spots let me know... I will have the car and would like to try some
new places...

Frank the desire to share a rental on the island is high however the ability to do is it low especially if I want to get to Acklins again this winter

However if I can manage I would like to take the ferry over and explore if you are going to be out there on a weekend.
