RE:Lets' talk FLIES FOR TROUT

I think this was more about tying them than fishing them. I suppose I would try to tie them but you can bet it would not be alot.. so if they were the fly of the day I would probably buy them.

RE:Lets' talk FLIES FOR TROUT

Thanks everyone, good dope-couple comments:

John D- My attempt at floating a dry Adams always ends up with a drowned fly 2 inches below the surface. SO I got that covered
What do you guys prefer for floatant? I got "DAB" but it ruins the pattern.

Brad- What size tippets were you using on those midge patterns? 7X? Leader length?

Terry

Terry

I had to check the vest to give an answer to this one. For floatant I currently use Aquel by Loon. Gink is similar to this floatant. Both of these are rubbed into the fly and may bend the fly into a different appearance. In my opinion I have never lost a fish due to this, and may actually have caught more fish because the fly appeared as a cripple that is easier for a fish to catch. I've been meaning to try the waterproofing solutions that have to dry overnight but I haven't gotten around to it. I've used other sprays and liquids in the past and didn't like the oily rings around the fly.

Having looked at Pete's post that separates the flies out into running & still waters I feel that I should add that my fly selection is for my favored type of water, flowing with relatively low numbers of anglers. It would change if I were on stillwaters or in trout management areas most of the time.

Terry, try FROGS FANNY, got some back at the wilmington show and it works great! It can be put on nymphs also to hold air bubbles on the bottom, and man i'll tell you does it look real!
