Pac Bay components for a winston 2bx?

A friend is building 2 rods for me on winston 2bx blanks, a 8 foot 4 weight light trout rod and a 9 foot 8 weight steelhead/salmon rod (freshwater).

I have never built a rod and have no clue about components. The blank is the 2bx greenish color.

If you want to use Pac Bay components, simply go to their web site, take a look at the reel seats and guides they have, and have your friend get the ones you like. Thread comes in a huge number of colors, so pick the thread color you like keeping in mind that it will darken when finish is applied.

But there are also other manufacturers than Pac Bay (Struble, REC, American Tackle, Fuji, Hopkins & Holloway to mention a few) who may just have what you are looking for. In other words, unless your friend only uses Pac Bay components, you really ought to take a look at components from other manufacturers as well. Afterall, it is your rod.

I'd look around at reel seat choices

I'd look around at other manufacturers reel seats as well. Pac-Bay reel seats are on a number of my rods, but there are a bunch of choices out there. I personally think that REC makes some wonderful reel seats that look great. Struble reel seats are also very nice. It seems like the Pac-Bay reel seats are not quite as nice in terms of quality as some of the higher-end reel seats.

For larger rods 8wt and above - I am starting to use Fuji reel seats that you would find on spinning rods. They securely hold the reel and they are very low maintenence - standing up to the salt water very well. They don't look as fancy as the high end reel seats, but the functionality is the same.

There is a site sponser Rod Builders Workshop that you may want to check out for components.

Have a good weekend,

Pete

I just built a Winston BIIX rod with an REC reel seat and Pac Bay snake guides with Fuji stripping guides. The reason I like to build rods is I can mix my components and not be concerned by the bottom line. FishHawk

Which REC reel seat did you buy, and what rod was it for (freshwater or saltwater, and size of rod? Did it match the green blank?)
