A Great Weekend in Chatham-Picutures too!

Saturday was on of those days when Keith need two trips to get us all out. Slower than yesturday...but still great... Fog till about 2:30... My crew..or Juro's clients ended up with about 20 fish brtween the three of them with the largest off the Shore side of about 24 inches.. Jim Sims and his younger boy had two keepers.... All caught..but hard work today.... but the more important report is what followed...Back to the Simms Causeway Saloon and I talked my chater guys to come back also... I have to say it was one of those great get togethers that defines the board. Stopped in on the way back from Simms to the UK cottage... and we talked about their plans for the next several day.. and before I could leave I get two great pins , one," UK Saltwater Fly Fishing" and the Other "B.A.S.S"... Then a bottle of Dalwhinnie, "Just a drop of water , John" Highland Malt. Unforgettable day..here are some pics.

I was playing tour guide with my mother and her husband and we stopped to take a look at the light, then took a ride to the refuge. Went by this palace with a bunch of cars in the drive and some unseemly looking people hanging out back. At 4:30, I expected to see some familiar faces on the causeway but hardly a soul was there. Started thinkin that must of been the Sims compound and everybody was there. Almost stop but didn't, wish I had. Had dinner at squires. No familiar facees confirmed what I had thought.

Bayside fishin was hot in the am but only a few keeper+ fish seen.

Fred, old buddy...

sorry you didn't stop in. Stop in anytime. We've been banging some decent fish, nothing big,, maybe 32 max. Lots of blues now and I think the big bass are starting to show up. Let me know if you make it down to Chatham, and when.

Had a great time meeting up with everyone and catching a few fish too! I was hoping to spend a bit of time with the Brits on the water but they seemed to vanish after I saw them at the light with John on Friday evening. I hope they didn't get arrested

I fished the outside Friday evening and had my first opportuntiy to check out more of the new structure. Picked up lots of the usual dinkies and saw only one good fish caught. Saturday was frustrating with the fog hanging around until after 2:00 p.m. but still nice to be on the water.

Yesterday was the first sight fishing opportunity for me this year and it felt great walking the flats under a bluebird sky with a gentle Southerly breeze. I was able to sight cast and land a nice 30+ striper in the surf and donated a number of flies to voracious bluefish until I gave in and deployed the tyger-wire. A number of us picked up stripers with wire on the tippet but I probably had 20 refusals for every committed hit. I tried 60lb Fluro and can attest that it's useless against bluefish teeth - you get maybe 15 seconds instead of the usual 5!

I got some nice pics from the Simms Saloon and a couple of folks with nice bluefish which I'll post when I get back home tommorow.

better late than never

as promissed if a bit late:

A few more scenes from the Simms' Saloon.

I didn't catch the "gist" of this conversation but the body language would make a great "add a caption" thread
