Salmon River Clave (NY)

I have been working with the DSR and some of the local fly shops to try to plan a speyclave on the Salmon River this year.

We have received a good response from a number of manufacturers so far and think that it will become a reality.

We are targeting August 20 th which is a Saturday. There should be minimal pressure on the river at this time with the chance of a few early Chinook swimming through.

I'm hoping to have more details in the next week to two weeks. I will post updates on the forum as plans become solid.

Right now I'm trying to guage interest from guys on the forum. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Gillie

Good Date

I, for one, like having Claves outside of the peak salmon/steelhead season. Maybe more folk can attend when they are not tempted by fishing.

What should your western Great Lakes fellow spey fishers expect if they decide to venture to the great East?

Brief Update:

Rick Kustich has agreed to a demonstration and will be representing Winston Rods with their new spey line present. He will also be representing West River Publishing. Rick has published numerous books and articles about spey rods for GL steelhead.

Scott rods has committed and will be sending their rods plus Ted Lewis form their pro-staff. Ted has fished the Salmon River and speciffically the Douglaston with spey rods substantially.

Nick from the Oak Orchard Fly Shop will have Thomas and Thomas rods available for trial and demonstration.

A number of other groups are interested and I will continue to update as information becomes available.

Let us know if your interested in attending.

Gillie -

Thanks for the invitation, I'm back in town now and it looks like I could most likely attend this clave with the full CND line in tow. It would be a pleasure to present as well if there is time in the schedule.

I'll be holding two classes for up to 4 students during my stay (aside from the clave); one for Spey starters and the other for intermediate level casters. If interested, pls drop me a PM for details.

Since the dates are still kinda out there, I could get distracted by near-term claves and fishing shenanigans but they do not imply a lack of interest in the clave.

I will contact you to discuss some ideas as the dates approach, and most of all thanks for taking the initiative!

No need to 'sow up' unless you are trying to get some more ooomph behind the cast, or looking for a hard stop against the gut

Seriously, I hope you do make it dude!

Juro,

You know me! Brute force and ignorance, a little heavy on the ignorance part in this case.

Charlie,

Glad to hear you'll be there. If you venture up a day early you might be able to convince me to show you some of the summer Skamania water we've been exploring for the past few years.

I'm finally able to post the tentative list of presntations. Hopefully a PDF with additional information will follow shortly.

Current planned streamside presentations include:

Rick Kustich (Winston)
Ted Lewis (Scott)
Juro Mukai (CND)
Rick Whorwood (Loomis)
Andy Murray (Hardy)
Andrew Moy (Tightlines Flyfishing)

Many of the manufacturers and fly shops throughout NY, NJ and New England are going to have tackle available for casting.

Hopefully this will wet the appetite.

More to follow.

Gillie
