Caught some bass

Headed out to Big Creek reservoir yesterday and caught a couple smaller largemouth on my fly rod. I used a long thin zonker strip to immitate a plastic worm shape. I also caught some white bass but on the spinning rod. I'll have to try to get after the whites with a fly rod some time, but there wasn't enought room from shore to use it where they were biting. Still cant seem to get the line to shoot through the guides on my new rod though, about the longest cast I could manage was 30 feet, which is just rediculous. Oh well, I'll have to keep at it, see if I can find what the problem is.

Just a thought on your new rod.

Sometimes the manufacturers line rating is a bit off. I have an old Orvis trident rated as a 9wt. It throws 9wt sinking lines fine but a 9wt floater doesn't load the rod correctly. My other 9wts (I own several) work fine with the designated line.
