Sage 509 question

Does anybody happen to know if the Sage 50X series offers conversion from RHW to LHW and vice-versa? I've seen a couple of the smaller reels (e.g., 503) with an 'L' designation after the number which causes me to be curious.

Thanks for any help...
Fro

The 509 can be switched by the user. If you are familiar with the Hardy Marquis reels, I believe you folow the same procedure. I am pretty sure I have the instructions for switching the 509 somewhere in my fishing "stuff". If I can find them, and no one has been more help in the interim, I will post again.

just flip over the pawls, voila! no problem.

the "L" means light, as in ported/drilled. I have both the Sage 506 and 506L. They are identical except for the porting, the spools interchange, etc.

The Sage 50x brown annodized series was made by Hardy for Sage and has been long discontinued. This reel was the first bar stock with annodized finish made by Hardy. Call Sage for spare parts, especially the black plastic cap on the reel frame that covers the spindle nut assembly, this part falls off easily and now Sage recommends a Locktite adhesive for assembly.

The pawl assembly and adjustment is identical to the Hardy Princess and Lightweight series, all the parts are interchangable. LH to RH conversion is a simple flip of the pawls like all of the typical Hardy designs, no tools required.

The "L" indicates "Lightweight" which was a later design with drilled frame and spool for reducing weight. The most common are the 505/505L and 506/506L, I believe the 504 had a 504L,,,,,I also believe the 508 and 509 did not offer the Lightweight option in the reel design.

This was a very nice reel and I was told it did not sell due to high price compared to other reels on the market at that time.
