Two-Handed Fly Rods in the Surf

I want to try two handed surf casting. I know I need a european fast action taper. I don't really want to break the bank. Will a Loomis GL3 14' 9/10 do the trick or do I need a stiffer rod than this?

The GL3 is a fair overhead casting rod but a lot softer than the euro blanks for sure. Other options you might consider are the two-handed rods that Bean and others are trying clear out at their outlet stores.

Another good bargain is the St.Croix 3pc, which is more of an overhand rod than a Spey rod.

I have been messing with this stuff for several years and have my opinions on the topic. I feel a shorter, fast/med.fast progressive taper is best and in weights 11 and above because with the other hand in play even 10wt is childsplay.

IMHO no one makes the right rod for eastern coastal FF yet.

You can have one made for a lot less than factory too.
