Fly Shops-HELP ME PLEASE

I have had a pair of Dr. Slick mitten clamps for years. I loved them, but alas, they finally broke. Dr. Slick has graciously replaced them,,,,with the newer model. However, the new model does not have all the features the old model had.

So I am hoping, against all odds, that maybe there is an old model like I had, gathering dust on the shelf of a fly shop somewhere.

They were large 6.5 inch stainless steel/gold mitten scissor clamps-straight. The features that are missing on the new ones are scissors plus side cutters. Scissors are only available on the smaller 5.5 inch models. And nowhere to be found on any of the mitten clamps today are the side cutters which were so good for trimming tag ends right down to the knot.

Since moving up here to the PNW, I really gained an appreciation for this one tool that did it all, in any kind of weather, with or without gloves on.

If anyone has a pair (or two) of these in stock, please pm me. Or email me mailto:speyfisher@charter.net.

Thanks,
JD

Any chance of Repair?...

Hey JD,

You've probably already thought about this But any chance of repairing the broken pieces. I don't know the nature of the failure But something that may be doable with the right resources. Just a thought from the designer/machinest standpoint.

Good Luck,
Greg

Unhappy Repairs

Too late now. I returned the broken pieces to Dr. Slick.

Oh that's right, usually you have to cough up the old one to get the new. Depending on how many were made perhaps a used model could be found in resonably good shape.

Your looking for Dr. Slick 6.5 inch stainless steel/gold mitten scissor clamps-straight. How old is the older model now?

Will poke around some of the shops I know around New England and see what I can find. I'll post back or shoot you a PM if I hear anything useful.

Greg.

Thanks Greg

According to the Dr. Slick people, they redesigned those things about five or six years ago. When they did, they left the scissors and the side cutters off the 6.5 inch models. And the smaller 5.5 inch model only has scissors but no side cutter.
