Purple Riach

Here is shewey's purple riach. I've always loved the look of the bronze mallard swept over a fly hackled with schlappen, especially in this color scheme.

Pattern:

Butt: hot orange and fluorescent orange yarn or floss, mixed
Body: Purple yarn or dubbing
Ribs: Wide flat silver and fine flat gold with fine silver oval over hackle stem
Hackle: purple schlappen or coque, one side stripped.
Collar: Teal or guinea
Wings: Bronze mallard (sometime dyed purple)

Very nicely done. Your spey flies have come a long way since the first ones you posted last year and now are among the nicest ones I've seen. Good on you for taking the time to learn how to tie them correctly.

CDG,

Perfectly set wing. John Shewey himself could not have done better.

Charlie.

Hey CDG...

Very cool! That looks like it would be a great fly for the Clearwater.

Yeah Baby Yeah, I can almost feel the fish on the end of that one. That is a nice fly, I too am partial to the swept wing look, and the purple hackle oh yeah.
