Saltwater footwear

Hey guys, I'm heading out to Cape Cod next week to try my luck in the salt and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good alternative wading shoe to wear with my gore tex breathables instead of my simms freestone wading shoe with the felt soles. I anticipate doing some walking and I think the freestones won't be very comfortable and a bit heavy for long walks in the sand. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dan.

I have only found one perfect solution and they are no longer available - a no-zipper neoprene boot with a sneaker sole, discontinued.

I would take a look at Patagonia Marlwalkers, available at many of our sponsor shops. I am going to try them when my current flats boots wear out.

When I know that I'll be doing a lot of walking, I use the Orvis wet wading shoes in a size big enough to fit over the boot feet of my waders. They're pretty close to the discontinued item that Juro has described.

They're so light, sometimes I forget that they're there.

Full contact wader-free wading?!

The water is about as warm as it's going to get...
Have you considered wet wading?!
The hard corps FF boyz of summer have been wader free for months...
Keep it shallow for best results...you'll stay warm AND see passing fish!
If you want to sight fish the flats, the deeper you wade, the shorter your visual vantage.
Wade much over your knees and you'll be entering "deep wader land" where fish navigate between you and the beach...
Ignorance is bliss!

If you still feel that you NEED your waders and alternative footwear, call NRS 800 635-5202 for suggestions or go on line...
I normally wear size 11 shoe...When I wear my Simms waders, the neoprene stocking foot drives the size of the booties up to 13...EMS sells several styles...
Any good Kayak shop will have these "paddle/water" boots...
Zippers will foul with sand and sand will enter the boots unless the tops are duct taped to seal sand out...sand will enter, regardless, just not as much...

Get the most out of your visit...
A MAJOR suggestion would be to read "Sight Fishing For Striped Bass" by Alan Caolo...that'll give you a crunch course BIG leg up and some great prep for a productive Striperland experience!

Thanks alot for the suggestions guys, I appreciate it. It's nice to get steered in the right direction from guys who are out there everyday testing out all the gear and finding out what really works. Thanks again and I hope I get a chance to run into some of you out there the last week of August. Dan
