First shore bone of the year. (non-ff)

Fished Rhody this weekend and managed to hook up with fish both days from shore. Saturday's fish broke the leader right at my when I slipped on the jetty rocks- korkers are great, but they don't make you invincible. Sunday's fish wasn't quite so lucky and made for great sashimi.

Saturday I didn't see a fish break all day, and hooked up after blind casting for 3 or 4 hours-- talk about a wake up call! Sunday there was a pod breaking sporadically near shore for about 20 minutes. I only got one good shot into the fish, but that one did produce. Fished ~7 hours each day, which shows just how slow the fishing was- they're around, but it'll still be a while before the fishing is really productive.

I had the spinning rod out both days, it was windy, but not too windy, and if it hadn't been for the crowds of scuppers, the flyrod would've been the way to go.

As a side note, I stopped by a commercial dock to see if I could get a bit of ice for my fish, and while I was there a netter (purse seiner??) came in to offload their catch. They had a mixed bag of BIG stripers & blues, bonito and schoolie bluefin (10-20lbs) with a few flatties mixed in as well. They were selling the blues, bonito, and bluefin retail right there on the dock for cash. I know blues and bonito are probably unregulated, but I would've thought selling small bluefin like that would be a big no-no. Anyone know anything about this?

Matt -

I have been working out with the prototype Atlantis 9/10wt and a 10wt shooting head lately and getting some very good distances even with wind. Usually one false cast and ~120 ft. I feel this new rod will be the cats **s for hardtails because it gets out in a hurry, reaches long casts and loves the fast double hand retrieve. At just over 7oz it's light duty and would be a riot for speedsters.

Would you be willing to host me in these spots to complete my field testing before the production rods arrive? My lips are sealed, no location info will be given online of course.

thanks in advance

Juro,

I don't think there is any secret as to where Matt was. My wifes friends are having a house warming party I must attend on Sat but I hope to get out Sunday. Let me know if you want to get together.

I am most likely teaching a two-hand class Sunday but if that doesn't happen I am all over it.

thanks Sean!

Juro, Sean's right, the spot is far from secret, and with the info in my post I'm sure a lot of people will know exactly where i was. I wasn't really trying to obscure things, but at the same time, I didn't want to come right out and say it either.

That said, I'd love to see the Atlantis in action, so if you're interested in fishing Saturday I'll probably be out there and you're more than welcome to join me.

Thanks Matt -

I am guiding Fri & Sat and think the class is still on for Sunday so have to take a rain check this weekend, maybe the next. Should only get better from here!

Any room for a yak to be launched to avoid the shore crowd ?
