Lake Champlain Bass report

Fished Sunday from my canoe. Flat and calm and a bit of overcast made for perfect conditions. Got 5 fish, including one 3 pounder, and lost another good one in about 2 hours. All hard fighting smallmouths (and some tiny perch I didn't count). Great sport on a 5 wt. Floating line, 9ft 3x leader, and an olive/yellow/chart./white blended clouser took every fish. At times I could stand up in my canoe it was so calm - better casting angle and could see the fish take.

no pike, which is I was hoping for as I had caught several in the same spot last year.

Probably best that you didn't get any pike, because that 3X leader would have been toast.

Smallies rock. Glad you got into 'em.

I only fish for a bass boat, or from land. I hope to try fishing in a canoe when I get older though. You don`t have to worry about your motor not starting, gas, trailer, NOTHIN. Heck of a lot cheaper than a bass boat also! LOL. Tight lines and good tyin!-redneck
