SB Flats Status

Haven't seen any reports lately re the SB flats. Has anyone been fishing them? Seeing fish? Mung? I realize they are tough to catch this time of year on the flats, but more interested in the prospect of opportunities. Thinking of heading down with Amy on Wed or Thursday....any info will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ron

Haven't seen much chatter with glowing reports other than a positive tidbit from Juro on another board (but he doesn't count, he'll always find and catch).

I'm having similar thoughts for Weds. or Thurs., but on Monomoy instead. I like the tide and the weather is looking pretty good. And I need to work on those sight fishing skills.

Hey guys, I've been a long time reader, and this is my second season at Monomoy; here's my first shot at a little fishing report (aka bored at work).

I've been fishing SB almost exclusively this summer really in an attempt to learn as much as possible. I didn't make it down this past weekend, but I've been out there 6 times over the past 3 weeks.

Last weekend:

June 10-11

Fished the weekend outgoing for the first time this year. On Saturday, conditions were about as ideal as I've ever seen weather wise, at one point the SB flats were as still as glass. Saw tons of fish of course, the biggest singles were rolling, vaccuming up the swarms of sand eels, several pods of fish in the 30" range, cruising at a bit faster pace. Made my way down past the buoy, and fished mainly in the areas around the mussel beds. I had about 15 or so legitimate shots at fish, turned 5 of them, out of those, 3 refused my fly (so i swapped in a size 8 olive over white clouser). The final two fish were exciting. I set up a group of 4 bigger fish perfectly, they circled the clouser, which was bouncing on the bottom, and one of them took it. Unfourtunately that previously mentioned fly swap was hurried, and my knot had the strength of Mr. Burns; so after a 5 second fight I lost the fish. I did eventually get redemption in a similar situation and landed a fish in the 30" range (good knots from now on).

Sunday wasn't as pretty, only saw 10 or so fish over the course of 5 hours. Strong north wind, and a weak tide probably played a role.

Whoa this is going way long... but anyways...taking advantage of opportunities is the name of the game; it's extremely satisfying when you start turning more fish and spooking less of them. SB has been good every time i've been there w/ the exception of the past Sunday

Good luck John! When and if the craving starts, just keep telling yourself "I don't smoke!" Worked for me once until I went to Andros and someone handed me a Cuban. All downhill from there. You can do it fella. If you can so will I! Picked up some Wellbutrin to start the fight with you.
