Hotep Spey

The result of some experimentation blending various colors of Whiting spey hackle. Started out with the Purple Emporer in the back of my mind and incorporated the Purple/Red combination I find so effective.

Hook: 1.5 AJ Gold
Tag: fine oval silver
rib: flat silver
counter: fine oval cont. from tag
tail: neck feather from red golden pheasant
body: back 1/2 deep purple floss, fron 1/2 blended purple and black dubbing
hackle: two black at start of dubbing followed by two purple whiting spey hackles
collar: natural gadwall
underwing: two purple spey tips
overwing: 2 breast feathers from a red dyed golden pheasant

Sinktip,

I like this, even though it lacks the yellow hackle found in the "Purple Emperor".

This fly looks great. I bet it would be a good producer for Atlantic salmon as well. I don't suppose you would mind if I made a few copies and tried them, would you?

Thanks Charlie

Beautiful fly! I also think this would entice an atlantic, especially on the Lower Humber. Thanks for sharing! Any chance of seeing the recipe?

Charlie,

Would not mind at all. I am sure someone else long ago came up with this pattern anyway. It has treated me well of late on summer run steelhead when swam in the film on a floating line.

Sayow,

The recipe is included in the original post. If it is not displaying well, let me know and I will PM it to you.
