This is dad's second favorite streamer fly. The Muddler Minnow unweighted is his favorite. I tie 2 to 3 dozen of these each year for him. This one is also tied on the Daiichi 2370 hook that was designed by Dick Talleur. It is my favorite streamer hook, granted it is not easy to find; but any shop that carries Daiichi hooks can get it for you.

hook: 6X-8X long limerick bend
thread: black 6/0 or 8/0
body: flat medium silver tinsel (preferrably metallic)
rib: fine oval silver (again preferrably metallic)
wing: bottom section yellow bucktail (about a matchstick in size)
mid section red bucktail (about a matchstick in size)
top section yellow bucktail (about 1 1/2 to 2 times the
size of either the bottom or mid section)

Notice that the fly is rather sparse, this is important for it to swim and fish properly and look like a minnow or small fish of some sort in the water.

Another old classic, we tied these at my fly shops open free tying nights this winter and I went on and tied up a bunch of them in larger versions for salmon and steelhead. Great attractor pattern.

Love those old classic eastern streamers, have to do a wall display on all of them some day. Nine Three, Edson Tiger, Supervisor, Gray Ghost, Wardens Worry, Litttle Brook Rainbow Trout series, White and Black Marabous, Muddlers, etc.. all the streamers we used as kids back east for trout.

Great looking flies. Reminds me of my earliest years as a tyer. I still use them occasionally, mostly for sentimental reasons and the fish seem to still like them or maybe they are also sentimental? How about the Black Nosed Dace as your next one?
