North Carolina Brook Streams

Is there anyone from the Carolinas out there? I am just curious to see if anyone else has made their homewaters in the blueridge mountains of Carolina, and if you know of any good native brook streams. Hiking in is not a problem, it is actually preferred.

Thanks.

RE:North Carolina Brook Streams

Hello and welcome!

I've heard quite a bit about the brookie fishing in North Carolina over the years. There were several folks from NC on a mail list I used to participate actively in years ago. Anyway, I got curious about the fishing out there and have to say that the state F&W site is excellent and I'm inspired to take a ride inland when we visit the coast this fall.

Likewise, if you ever get up to New England, out to the northwest, or one of the other regions where we have members on-line make sure you let us know ahead of time so we can show you around!

Regards,
Juro

RE:North Carolina Brook Streams

Juro,
Thanks for the welcome. I just happend upon this site a week or so ago and I just have to say I love it. It has good information and it seems like there are a lot of quality people/anglers on this site. Hopefully I will be making it up to PA this spring or summer, but nothing has be set in stone yet. If I do get that opportunity I will let ya'll know.
Thanks again.

RE:North Carolina Brook Streams

I'm from NC and fish many brookie streams. Juro asked me to stop by and take a look at this site since their was a NC post. Really like the site and will try to swing by every few days to answer any questions that I might have some input on. But like I said yes we hve brookies here in WNC but the names and locations of the streams are fairly well guarded. [img]http://www.flyfishingforum.com/images/flytalk/Happy.gif" border="0" align="middle"> Probably the most well know brookies stream in the state is Big Snowbird in Graham County. Lots of brookies above the Middle Falls. Few other brookie water in the state, but they are all smaller than Snowbird. Most of them are very small (headwaters of large watersheds, with waterfalls to keep the non-natives out), the state list several as Catch and Release Only streams. These two tips should help you locate some, if you are still having problems let me know and I'll steer you in the right direction.

I would be shot if some people found out that I'm telling where all the brookie streams in WNC are located. <img src="http://www.flyfishingforum.com/images/flytalk/Happy.gif[/img]

Scott, Thanks for the information. I was looking to go there this spring. I have even heard of one other place I may be trying real soon. I'll let you know how it went. Thanks for everything.

RE:North Carolina Brook Streams

Welcome Scott! I really enjoyed your website and it's great to have you stop in.

I've been reading about the brookies you have in the mountains over the years and hearing about the beautiful country of the western Carolinas from people who have visited. I hope some day I have a chance to see it myself, the Carolinas sound like a nice place to move to to escape bitter winters in my golden years.

We'll be visiting this fall for the coastal albie/bonito fishing - do you guys do any of that? Maybe we can hook up there.

RE:North Carolina Brook Streams

Scott,
Went fishing this Saturday and found a nice little brookie stream. I caught two beautiful little brookies and my fishing partner caught four. I appreciate the info and I look forward to many more brookie days. Thanks
David
