Yes... I think that would be great... except I can not at this time orgainize it.... the plate is really full now and I want to make sure that I successfully finish the three swaps... Can we get some volunteers to do this..post the bait fish picture... or I can ask Bob Popovic if we can piggyback on what he does since he has the photo's of the baits in Question.

Baitfish Gallery

There is a baitfish gallery on Ken's site. All you have to do is pick the image you want to use and either print it out or look at it on your computer screen. I did it with a group of friends one time by sitting around a lap top. Or you could post the image id by saying menhaden, image number 3. Then everyone could work at home and send in the flies.

Skyomish... That seems harmless enough... Let me think about that. The pictures on the that site are only bait fish... no eels, crabs or shrimp... I think... Rich, if you orgainize this is there anyway you would be able to post a photo of a real baitfish or other creature on this site to use as an example. I certainly could photo the flies also... At least people would only have to tie one fly so it is not a swap.

Baitfish Gallery on Stripermoon.Com

John,

As one of the resident "Moonies" (Penguin's term), the Baitfish Gallery on Stripermoon.com has lots more than fish. There are great photosof a variety of invertebrates there as well as fish species. The idea of using it as a theme could be great fun.

If it were to be done as a swap theme (even on an experimental basis) I would be happy to Meister, as I know your schedule is very busy. Just a thought.

Best regards,

-Doc

Ok Doc.... why don't you and Rich just come up with the rules... I have participated on the New Jersy Board when Bob has started the exercise.... he simply posts a photo of a bait fish or other ..like shrimp, crab, etc and askes the people to tye what they "see"... so what he is trying to do is have people look and come up with as close an imitation as they can... so it really is tying only one fly.... but it's great practice.... let me know or you guys should start it anytime you want...let me know how I can help.

John,

Still working on the picture angle. I'm trying to arrange a source of high quality images that we can use without running afoul of copyright problems. Hope to have something going quite soon and will advise.

Best regards,

-Doc

Doc makes a very good point. I know from first hand experience. I was the staff photographer for the Rondtable magazine many years ago. On one assignment we put some salmon flies on a book to use as a background. We thought that no one would be offended if we did this. Well, we got a nasty letter from the publisher with the threat of a legal action. So always ask permission before you use something.

That's a great idea for a swap; I'd like to be in on that if it gets going.
