Ted Williams, author

So in getting more into this new hobby of reading magazines in the winter, I'm skimming through (someone elses) Audubon mag and suddenly there's the striking <!--http--><a href="http://members.home.net/bcsteelhead/amazing%20photo.htm" target="_blank">photo of the deer standing just yards from the towering inferno</a><!--url--> of forest on the Bighole R., Montana. This epic photo was the banner for an article called "Burning Money" by none other than "the other" Ted Williams, who will be the featured guest at the Boston Massachusetts chapter of the Coastal Conservation Assoc. on March 16 at the Burlington Marriott (see post in striper board for info).

Now don't get me wrong about this magazine thing, as a former resident of the pacific northwest I won't be starting up subscription services anytime soon. Why even this issue of Audubon (Jan/Feb) contains an alarmingly awakening article about our consumption of resource for printed matter:

- 8,000 titles in the US requiring 3,000,000 tons of paper which could circle the earth 102 times at the equator

...not to mention the rate of deforestation, chemical by-products, and to me the worst fact of all

<center>*** we read approx 2% of what we print ***</center>

So I won't be keeping this magazine hobby thing. I'll find a new one, like reading the internet [img]http://www.flyfishingforum.com/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif" border="0" align="middle">

Aside from all that, Ted's article (digital) is linked below. I was equally compelled as I was from the indigenous species article I read in Fly Rod & Reel (my identity faux pas). I am really impressed that he is obviously a multi-faceted writer and fits as well within the Audubon genre as he does within the FF one.

<i>Please don't tell me this is yet another Ted Williams?</i> <img src="http://www.flyfishingforum.com/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif[/img]
