NC Albie update

Monday and Tuesday of this week were exceptionally good for false albies at Cape Lookout. Monday most people were treated to fish rolling on top and staying on top. Tuesday wasn't quite like that but there were still plenty of fish and most people had plenty of chances. I got one for my girlfriend on one of the new Tsunami swim baits. Chucked it in there and one sucked it right in. I got one a little alter on fly in about 6 feet of water. Ran out all the flyline in no time at all. Today the wind is whipping from teh SW (not good). Lots of boats were at the Cape Lookout Jetty fishing for trout. I tried it for a while and didn't see any nor did I catch any. Maybe I missed it because it was elbow to elbow out there. I ended up back in my regular spot and we caught about 2 dozen right around 12 inches, with some smaller and none bigger.

Dave

I feel that it is best not to talk about our upcoming trip...I have found that the weather Gods do not smile on those of us who boast about pending trips.

Thanks for the update Captain Gordon. I guess we're going to find out how the albie bite is! My fingers are crossed. Really looking forward to a few days on the water down there regardless.

Any reccomendations for good restaurants and taverns near Atlantic Beach?

Patriots game on Nat'l TV Sunday night. NICE!

"Any reccomendations for good restaurants and taverns near Atlantic Beach? "

Best places to eat around here are in Beaufort (my town), just a short drive away. Blue Moon Bistro on Queen Street is the very finest dining within a couple hours drive of here. If you want something cheaper try Clawsons on Front Street. In Atl Beach the mexican place on the causeway called El Zarape is good and cheap. For a good tavern and a really good burger try Playtime Sports Bar in Atlantic Station Shopping Center near Outer Banks Outfitters/Boaters World and across the street from Food Lion. Get a good breakfast at the 4 Corners Diner. It's right there at the...four corners...

The BT, Beach Tavern, is pretty cool too. Oh yeah there is a damn fine restaurant in Atl Beach too called the Island Grill, right next to Sportsmans Pier. Kind of out of the way and frequented by the local folks. Make reservations. Monday and Tuesday is two for one on their specials. Really good food, funky atmosphere. Get the fillet. I have gone and made myself hungry.

I hope Big Dave posts a fishing report when he gets back. There were at least two days where there was a good bite when he was here. I would like to know how he did. The weather is getting squirrelly here as I write this (Tuesday noonish). Wind is shifting and picking up steam and the skies are darkening and there is a hint of rain. The past 2 1/2 days have been some of the nicest of the year around here and the fishing was good for both albies and speckled trout.
