Penobscot

This is nice, to see these walls coming down, slowly but surely.

Awesome... maybe this will mark the turning point for the forgotten (forsaken) American atlantic salmon in the US! With Connecticut and Merrimac river dams mired in politics, the Great Lakes strains all but gone, it's now all up to the Penobsot to preserve the legend of atlantics in our great country.

Thanks for letting us know!

I think this is a turning point Juro. Not only for the Penobscot and our Salmon but for our New England Rivers as well. Having watched the Kennebec (don't forget the Kennebec Salmon) come back from the dead since the removal of edwards dam and now with an oppurtunity to watch it happen on the Penobscot I get the feeling that this is just the beginning of the process. Although it may not happen in our lifetimes, I believe that someday our grandkids will see our big New England Rivers from the Conneticut to the Penobscot flowing free in all their glory. Thats a good feeling.

FWIW, My ten year old came home with a worthy assignment tonight.

He to determine which side of a debate he wanted to defend. Remove or retain the dams on the Colombia river. I think / hope I changed his mind from his original standpoint.

Thats a great school project. It's good to know they are talking about this stuff in school. If he needs any info have him contact my brother Doug http://home.gwi.net/~fks/ksalmon.html. He has a great video that was made about the Glen Canyon Dam and the whole dam debate out there and around here. He could probably send him down a copy. I have one that is put out by American Rivers that I could send up also.
