Well, left the island, Washburn Island that is, around noon Sunday.
Awsome weekend, beautiful sunrises and sets, lots of GREAT food, and lots of funny fish around.
The score as it stood when I left, lots of blues had been landed, a few schoolie bass, 4 or 5 fluke, but as of then, no Tunoids. They were there, they were just very skittish and unwilling. They were also being heavily pursued by a ravaging pack of boats, so they were never up too long. I have to think that with Monday here and the boat traffic down, fish should be landed today. Alas, I am at work and not there...
Wind kept most boats fairly close to shore, but that was ok, as the fish were most frequently spotted near the Jetties.
Big thanks to Case, well organized, planned, and executed! Good seeing everyone out there as well, and Jim and Terry, thanks for the great boat rides!
Can't wait to see what happened today, I have a feeling it will be a good one!
No pics as of yet, I forgot my digicam at home ...
Although I got skunked I'm still wearing a smile having finally met some of the people from this Forum. Hats off to Brian Casey and all those who put this Clave together. The food was excellent and the laughs outstanding! My apologies to anyone we kept awake during the story telling run we had Saturday night. A especially big thanks to John Bigcat Marotta
who gallant attempts to find a hardtail took Jerry and as far as Vinyard Haven. And Jerry. Thanks for being the shield for the buckets of water coming over the bow in that wind! He laughed al the way back to the getty, soaked to the bone.
The weather on Saturday was possibly the best you could ask for camping. Cold front it was and it certainly effected our chances at a grand slam. All in all, everyone had a great time. When's the next gathering? Burlingame? Nickerson? I'm still looking forward to meeting Striblue. Sorry John could'nt make it.
A special thanks to Mike and Sean for delivering me to the island and to Craig for making the run in and not finding me at the dock for the 5:30 AM pickup. If there is anyone I've forgotten, a hearty thanks to all.!!!! Looks like the Monday guys
are in for a good day with less wind. Please give us a full report.
And all the story telling, fun loving, great fishing guys that made the trip a weekend to remember.(maybe next time we should invite some fish) To the Easty dont know what brakefast lunch and dinner would be without you guys. To Mike Z hope to see you and Mat soon one day Ill get my boy out there too, and Mat keep up the good work. John had a alot of laughs and a good ride love the boat and thanks for all your efforts but sometimes the fish just want us to know the ball really is in there court. All in all had a fantastic time hope to do it again soon .
BYE THE WAY HAS ANYONE SEEN WILL !!!!!!
ps SEAN ,my partner went to Charlestown RI said the breachway was loaded with bones. go figure
Left on the same boat with Nick. Must of looked like a bunch of refugee's with all their personal belongings. Great time was had. Felt the salt spray with Jim W on Friday, hit the jackpot on Saturday when Frenchcreek invited me out on a charter with Capt Art and got the tour of Woods Hole and beyond with the Clavemiester on Sunday.
Weather turned out pretty good 'cept for the wind and slop on Friday and Sunday. Saturday was gorgous and Art had Pete and I casting to false albcore/bonito most of the day, close to shore between Waqouit and Succonesset. Pete landed one and there was one other, possibly two hookups and loses. They were tough. Blues seemed to be everywhere for the taking.
As usual the food was great. Big thanks to the gormet cooks, Mike Z, Terry W. Sully, the Estey's and ... I know there were others. Special thanks to Jim Whalen, Pete Laviolette and Art and of course Brian Casey.
jf, bone, nick, and fredA unload JimW's boat in record time without disrupting the launching line for more that 30 seconds.. Good fast teamwork.
Food was great. I still need a little help trying to figure out why Slinger stays up all night tying flies when the fish are not biting. The man that doesn't sleep:hehe:
A truly outstanding weekend. It was great to see some old friends and make some new ones. Every single person who participated chipped in and did more than their part so a big thank you to all and a bigger one to our most wonderful meisters.
Our report for the weekend. Lots of fun, laughter, excellent food, outstanding weather despite some unfriendly wind, and some fish. We landed blues and fluke on Saturday and Sunday without a shot at the funny fish. On Monday we found a lot more blues and had plenty of shots at funny fish with one hookup by Mike. It was a monster albie and he fought it valiantly for over a half hour before the fly came unstuck. Not long after that fight we headed in to pick up camp and head home. I can't wait for next year!!!
