Chatham-South beach-7/15

Out at 5am...Cloudy, drizzly,fog....light breeze...Perfect! Did the same walk as yesterday...no other fishermen around till 8:30...Outgoing... 5 fish from about 6:30 to 9:30...Moved around and area about 300 yards long all the time there.... Fish size ranged fron a rat to a 25 incher. Once again, forgetting fundamentals I failed to hook 5 others...my tip was too high as I raised the line over moderated breakers...all strikes within 30 feet...but I casted about 90 feet each time (when I had a well timed cast)..Fish seemed to be holding in a ridge along the shore about 80 feet....shorter miss casts did nothing to entice a fish... On the way back about 10..(no Ticket when I got to the car at 10:30.... Cloudy morning )....Boats had moved in just behind the big girl bar at the south end of the cut...but over the last bars.... Food for thought.... will head out tomorrow morning just to the Light house ..outgoing tde... and will search for the new holding area... I think I know where two might be at Gaps in the outers bars...rip waters forming... It seems fishermen have forsaken the area, except for the tourists who head out after nine to cast plugs and bait fish..........They usually go no further than the point. Might be the time for a turn on since I have not seen anyone out there for more than a week....Now is the time to be the first .

Thumbs up Stage Harbor light

Hello John,
Stuart here, you were nice enough to let me tag along with you and Jim S last week at Monomoy. I hiked out to Stage Harbor light the next day at the start of the outgoing and fished the first false point before the outside corner. There was a nice bowl there with lots of action. I landed 16 nice fat schoolies most in the 20+ range. I was using a hi d sinking shooting head backed with Cobra flat red mono and my small #6 sand eel. In fact I landed 15 of those fish on the same fly and was about to put it on my hat when I snapped it off.
thanks again for your guidance out at Monomoy. I hope to catch up to you for one of the rip trips later this summer.

Welcome to the Forum Stuart!...Glad you signed on...Yes ..the entrance of Stage is good and you had a banner day...I know the Hole you are talking about and the outgoing is excellent... wait till you spend the day there in the fall...it is a reliable place for False Albacore as well... and that says something since it is fishing for them from shore... See you soon...

Good point Mayor, I haven't fished it in a while - maybe three weeks. I did well there though, on the incoming tide about 1/3 flood at the holes in the morning and evening. Some large bass have been caught just inside Pleasant Bay lately, bait is plentiful in the area. The scene could be set...

Hmm. If a guy could get a full morning off to fish this weekend it might be a good time to paddle up to Lil' Birdy island for the drop.
